(Non)Operating Systems

Corporations are iffy about switching to Windows 7.

Iffy as in, according to a report in Information Week, 83% saying "no thanks".

What about schools? I remember there was a near mutiny at school when we switched from XP to Vista. (Fortunately I'm down in the Mac lab, so it effects me only minimally).

I'd like to know what operating systems you all are using. Give it to me: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

  1. OS X Leopard (specifically 10.5.6) on my school-issued laptop.

OS X Tiger on the school desktops.

We also have a windows partition on the Macs but that doesn't get used too often.

  2. Work Computers: Mac OS X 10.4.11

The good: the teacher computers we received this year are very pretty (Titanium iMac).

The bad: Most of the computers available for students are "blueberry" macs. Remember those?

The ugly: the very pretty teacher computers are so locked down (software) that they are more like over-glorified "blueberries" than actual tools. Example: I can't play DVDs on this computer, because I need to choose the region for the player, which requires an administrative password. Can't upgrade or update. And there is one tech guy for the school...who is a patient and wonderful guy...he's just one.
